What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula comes into the home in the fourth trimester, following the birth, to provide education, non-judgmental support and companionship. The doula validates and enhances the parents’ intuitive ability to nurture and encourages them to develop and implement their own parenting style. Support looks different from family to family, but the main goals are to “mother the mother” and nurture the entire family as they transition to life with a newborn.
About Me
Hello! My name is Rikki and I am a trained and certified postpartum doula.
I’ve worked with families and children for the past 20 years as a babysitter, childcare assistant, classified substitute, student teacher, nanny and most recently, as a postpartum doula.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Psychology and a Master in Teaching. I have always loved working with children. My passion lies with supporting families through the postpartum period. I am an early childhood educator at heart and see the incredibly important value of getting newborns, and their families, the help they deserve in such an integral time of development.
I have a family life of my own outside of helping others. My partner and I live in Woodinville with our sweet toddler who was born in February 2022 and our feisty dog, Waylon. We also co-parent an incredible 13 year old son who graciously shares a bedroom with his brother :) We all enjoy outdoor adventures, getting cozy by a fire and getting creative- making music, drawing, building LEGO creations-you name it.
